I had a wonderful opportunity to discuss with UG & PG students of Mathematics from Dwaraka Doss Govardhan Doss Vaishnav college, Chennai during a day’s workshop on “Analysis of Sorting Algorithms”.
In the current age of AI where coding is not a skill anymore where as critical thinking and analysing seen as an essential skill for all careers, the workshop focussed on,
1. Need for different sorting algorithms.
2. Systems thinking and aspects to be considered while implementing Sorting algorithms in Python.
3. Mathematical aspects and thinking to be applied to analyse and categorize sorting algorithms.
Students participated enthusiastically when they are introduced to Systems thinking and computational analysis. My humble gratitude to Ms. Devika madam (HOD of Mathematics dept) and Vijayalakshmi madam to give an opportunity to ignite the sparks in young students minds.
“Students eyes and ears widened to know how sorting algorithms play an important role in our everyday life and how the design of the algorithm plays a crucial role in our experience”, reiterated the fact that academic institutions should collaborate more with industry and experts to give students the real world connection of Math concepts they learn in school, college, universities.
These initiatives will certainly equip students with employability skills.
